RRR

make sure when doing the driver side cams you rotate them about 30 degrees to the passenger side once chains are off to take pressure off the cams for removal. If not you can snap a cam while removing cam caps. Have done quite a few 3.6 head gaskets at work now.

Thank you... Been doing some research this is my first DOHC motor... 30 degrees passenger. How about the passenger side?

Oddly enough ARP is just now producing head bolts, studs for the 3.6....

Parts are in the wind.
Gaskets and fuel injectors in house
Cam Chains, guides and tensioners in route
Dorman Oil filter housing assembly in route
ARP head studs arrived today

Will try to remember to take a few pictures

It all begins Thursday morning...

Might need a few more bits than just bolts.... PS got an Aluminum 5th gen 5.3?

And it begins. Tear down in the morning. New cam chains, head gaskets and with luck Dorman oil cooler by tomorrow afternoon. Friday will be assembly. Pictures to follow....

Passenger side head will already be in a neutral position at top dead center so no need to move the cams once chains are off just remove them. I’ll try and get some pictures from the FSM tomorrow at work for you to show what I mean.

Topside creepers have limited use cases for most shade-tree folks and are not cheap, but are wonderful to have when you need/want one. Almost make jobs like turbo reseals and up-pipes on lifted 7.3s relaxing.

Lots done and lots of learning....need a few kinetic moments with the engineers that designed this engine.

Day started with fenders coming off...that little motor is way in there. Then the tires and lowered to a set of blocks for easy access

Next up stripping the engine down...all the front accessories come off and then the front cover.

Valve covers...driver side easy... passenger side..-#__*@.some stupid design has the breather in the back dovetailed into the rear cam mount.....

Chains are off and cams loose...exhaust... manifolds.... Phucking stupid design for maintenance. Spend a couple hours trying to figure out how to get the bottom rear bolts out...a little help from a pry bar and they are loose...not sure how they are going back in.....

Tomorrow we go at it again. Head are coming off, oil cooler, and cam chains and front cover, if we can get all that done and the exhaust I'll call it a win.
Two people 0900 to 1700...I want a simple fuel injected V8......

Special thanks to Rattletrap55 for all the help.

Cheers

Awesome job you got a lot accomplished in a day. They really made it tough to access the passenger side. I am off on Sunday if you want some help with assembly let me know.
