I was looking at the HF jack stands and floor jack.

Any suggestions on things I should consider when purchasing (besides the auto-pancake feature of these)?

Well this is not great news.  I may have to check the numbers on mine.

I have been in a close call with one that dropped while I was working on a Jeep supported by one that dropped due to a rounded tooth.

Interesting! I will have to go and swap out the few that I have.

My one experience with a crumbled/ruptured HF jack stand was when my father accidentally backed into my TJ while the front axle was sitting on these jack stands. Bumper it off the stand and the axle landed on one of the stand legs, rupturing it as the Jeep came down. Told him he was getting old if he managed to do that in a newer CRV with a backup camera. I let him keep it as a memento and to hold up his light-duty riding mower here and there.

If anyone is looking for replacements, NAPA sells some nice stands made in the USA by Evercraft that can usually be had for under $50/pair.

Thanks for the heads up! I just checked mine and 1 of my pairs has to go back to the store. Wonder if they already have replacements in-store or at least in-bound.

Of the six I have, four were recalled.. two 3 ton and two 6 too, I think a majority of them are probably subject to the recall..

Neither of my two sets were in the recall. But I should probably double check.

I forgot to follow up on this. I went to the store and my serial number range was not in the recall group. The manager showed me photos of the flawed ones and the teeth of the ratchet bar were just barely machined and clearly susceptible to falling. Inspecting and comparing mine I could discern the difference where the teeth on mine are fully machined. Whenever possible I do the "throw the tire underneath as insurance" thing so as long as I do that I have a little extra peace of mind (even though mine are good).

In today’s episode of you couldn’t make this stuff up if you tried:

https://www.roadandtrack.com/car-culture/buying-maintenance/a33235534/harbor-freight-replacement-jack-stands-recalled/

So apparently the stands that replaced the recalled stands are now being recalled. They’ve just given up and are letting you return any of the stands, recalled or not.
