Runner's Build - A Shale Green LJ Adoption

Not exactly Jeep related, but I bought myself a retirement present. At least now I can easily move around axles and other heavy Jeep related parts! ;)

Wow. I could have used that to move axles around recently.

Cool! I just bought a tractor also! I can't wait! Being delivered Saturday!
I just had mine delivered last Saturday, after waiting for delivery since November. All I can say, is I should have done this years ago. What you can do with these little tractors is amazing. I'm waiting on a mechanical thumb for the backhoe, so I'll have a big "claw" to pick things up with!

Replaced a lot of parts. Cooling system is all better now!

It's looking like a plan is starting to formulate for the LJ. If I go with a Savvy UA I can have roughly an 18" belly height on 33" tires. This is more than I had on the previous LJ with 35" tires. It was at approximately 17" with a UCF Extra Clearance skid.

Over the next year, I see the following coming, depending on parts and time availability:

- Big hub kit, with 5 on 5.5 bolt pattern
- 5.13 gears with front and rear lockers
- Either a 241 or 231 with SYE (TBD)
- 3" Nth Degree springs
- Savvy control arms
- Savvy UA
- Savvy Rockers/Sliders
- Savvy Body Lift
- Savvy gas tank skid
- MML
- Black Magic Big Brake Kit
- 33x10.50 tires (likely a 17" metric equivalent)
- Transmission and power steering coolers, with trans temperature gauge
- Shocks are TBD, but I'd like a custom tuned set, if possible/practical
- Other odds and ends

Awesome Rich!!! When you were over I should've showed you my Mahindra. Been used for toting axles, engines etc. Jack of all trades for sure

Beginning stages for the front hub conversion. These have been cleaned, but will require blasting. Originally, they were powder coated. However, I'll likely just paint them. That way touch ups will be easier. All the parts are in, with the exception of the stub shafts. Those are scheduled to be here in a few days. The conversion requires 5x5.5 wheels, so that is the last decision to make.

The conversion will also include a Big Brake kit upgrade to dual piston calipers.

I've been a little delinquent on keeping this up to date. The LJ received a transmission temperature gauge, using the following parts:

The stock control arms had cracked/torn bushings, so I dug into the Savvy arms, weighing in at roughly 50 lbs for the set of eight, with the hardware.

I've been wanting to install additional lighting inside the Jeep. The specific two places I wanted to augment are better overhead lighting up front and increased foot well lighting. However, the search has been frustrating, because I couldn't find an option that looks like it came from the factory. After weeks of searching, I finally found two products that fit very nicely.

This first one is small enough to fit perfectly in the plastic cover above the rear view mirror. You do have to drill three small holes, so you can bolt the light down and feed the wire through. The light comes with small screws, but these won't work. I replaced those with a #8 1/2" machine bolt, lock washer, and nut.

The second one is 1" LED strip that happens to fit perfectly at the top of the rocker. There is a small metal strip that runs across the top of the rocker, so I cleaned it with alcohol and then stuck the LED light strip to it, using the double sided tape that comes with the light.

Both lights were tied into the factory harness, at the stock small foot well light harness. This way, when the door is opened, the lights come on automatically. The top light is awesome, because it has a switch, in case you want it turned off, and it swivels almost 90°. For the top light, I used male/female connectors, so it could be removed easily.

Then went on to finish up the passenger side foot well lighting.
