What type of fire extinguisher do you carry in your Jeep?

Getting ready to order a fire extinguisher for the Gladiator and noticed on Amazon that First Alert has a HOME1 and GARAGE10. Figured the HOME1 must have some amount of liquid in it to get the A rating, where the GARAGE10 I'm guessing is purely dry chemical. Seems like the GARAGE10 is what I need for the Jeep. Can anybody confirm if this is correct?

First Alert HOME1 Fire Extinguisher UL Rated 1-A:10-B:C
First Alert GARAGE10 Fire Extinguisher UL Rated 10-B:C
Common home fires include trash, wood, paper (Class A), liquids and gases (Class B), and electrical (Class C)

Thanks

I did a little research on this last year. Sample site I used to learn some basics: https://blog.qrfs.com/203-car-fire-...-and-they-are-required-on-some-vehicle-types/

I went with a 2.5lb ABC dry chemical extinguisher: https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B0089XA6Y0/ and a Rugged Ridge roll bar mount. I have never used it (or any fire extinguisher before, my kitchen one is also unused). Part of me wants to buy a second one, set a controlled fire somewhere, and then put it out. Maybe a new club activity? :) (for real though?)

I remember there was a thread on here discussing the pros and cons of those small portable Element fire extinguishers, which would be good to check. I also saw a recent one on the national JL forums questioning its effectiveness. Maybe the answer to something like this is always have both types...but I've never owned an element so can only point to others.

Yea I saw a video of a guy trying to use an Element on an engine when the wind was blowing. It didn't work very well. I think he said to make sure the wind is at your back. It seems to be more susceptible to wind since it outputs something akin to smoke. Guessing this is less problematic with a regular dry chemical extinguisher, but it creates more of a mess to clean up.

BTW, here is the Element thread:

I basically bought a 2 pack of extinshers from the warehouse store amid used a Velcro holder to strap onto the Jeep.

Here's the video done in the past couple of weeks. The thumbnail is a lot more "clickbaity" as it's actually a half hour long and goes over several types of extinguishers and demos for them.

Wow, I found it informative video. Also found this link educational:

For those who have an Element, this guy mounted it on the side of his seat:

I suspect the Element would be really good for under the dash electrical fires, but I'm not impressed with how it works on engine fires. I'm thinking I need to get three different fire extinguishers: (1) a 2.5 lb BC mounted to the rollbar in the cab, (2) an Element in easy reach of the driver's seat and (3) a large water-only or ABC extinguisher in the bed of the Gladiator, but I won't worry about that until I get it outfitted for camping.

2.5 lb. ABC mounted to the rollbar, Like your thanking on the water only for the camping area.
Just remember fire extinguisher is most often used on your friends vehicles. Its a mental thing for most, digging for a extinguisher when the vehicle is on fire, goes against our natural flight response. Its different when you have an extinguisher in hand much easer to run towards the fire at that point.
Just hope we never need them.

I've been considering going to a 5 or 10 pound extinguisher. I have a 2.5 BC on the roll bar like many do. I've seen many crazy videos where it seems like if they had a few seconds more of spray left, the fire could have been put out all the way, but it flares up because they run out chemical. Just something to think about.

Good point.

If you will be at the march meeting, i can give you a bigger ABC dry chemical fire extinguisher if you want one.

Thanks. I actually have a larger one. Didn’t realize it until I moved a box downstairs and there it was. Will likely mount it in the bed of the Gladiator. Sorry I’m going to miss the March meeting. Will be in Florida visiting my middle son and his wife. Hoping do some beach driving and hit an easy off road trail in Ocala Nat’l Forest.

If you're looking to give away one, I am in the market. But FYI in case this changes things: my plan would be to use it, or the 2.5LB one I have mounted, so I can practice using a fire extinguisher once.

Got the small fire extinguisher installed in the cab with quick release mount.

I keep a 2.5 lb ABC extinguisher mounted on a quick-release bracket. Covers electrical, fuel, and trash fires, pretty much all you need in a Jeep.

Also, if you’ve ever handled foam-type extinguishers or military gear, this article on AFFF lawsuits might be relevant.
