Upcoming Projects (Repairs and some Upgrades)

Prior to rear diff complete failure i had noticed my Steering stabilizer was very sloppy and loose inspection shows its blown. Falcon out of warranty and none in stock anywhere so ordered Fox so thats in the pile waiting to go in
-FOX 2.0 TS STEERING STABILIZER
-Gears / Gear Kit Ect - Pending Y.E.S. warranty process
Springs have kinda been trash for awhile and have sagged hard but expected that from Teraflex

And since it was all torn apart and prices were good for BF Sales I am upgrading the rear driveshaft to match the front
-ADAMS EXTREME DUTY SERIES REAR 1310

Also i got this in a trade for basically free so gotta clean it  up aquire a remote and the mounting parts for the hardrock bumper but i finally have a winch i guess

Way the failure on the Pinion is pretty amazing. what ratio 4.88 or 5.13? Love to see a close up or two of the pinion  teeth damage.

Had a Set of Yukon Gears in the back of the Red Jeep.  During the failure analysis it was very clear that there was a void space at the root of the tooth that broke.  The broken piece was about 3/4 of an inch long. The rear gears were installed  in 2018.  Replaced with Motive Gears from ECGS, gears alone were only $205.00 plus shipping. ( note  use UPS it is a 1 day  delivery to VA)

I am not with the Jeep atm but your pieces sound an aweful lot like this

They are 4.88. You say 2018 about when in 2018 was your install out of curiosity. Cause my buddy had exact same gears done same time and he had the very same problem. Got me thinking maybe a bad batch

Rob's gears didn't look nearly as bad as yours, but that could just be that he caught his long before they could get bad... The timing on the regears does sound pretty coincidental though! If there are visible voids/bubbles under where your teeth were on the pinion, that would definitely point to casting problems with a batch of the Yukon gears, But your pinion got chewed on by the ring gear so much, it might have erased all evidence of a bad casting now...

I'm guessing if your failure was the same as Robs the the initial broken tooth/teeth didn't fall through to the bottom of the differential housing as cleanly as his, leading to a lot more secondary damage...

Couple snaps of the offending tooth. You can clearly see the grain structure is not right.  Please feel free to use these snaps and share with Yukon. This is leading to a bad batch.

Bought these is Jan/Feb of 2018. This makes me wonder about the front gears now. Ugh!

So, I see a draw bar in your picture with the rear disassembled. What do you tow and what does it weigh? Reason I ask , is my axles issues started after my trip to  WY.  I was towing  my little 700# trailer on the highway.  it might be possible that with  big tires  deep gears and a load that these  bad batch of pinions are giving up the ghost.

Just a thought.

Cheers

Extension is for my hitch cargo basket it was just to short to clear the Spare Tire.  Holds nothing more than my cooler and water ect ect. so maybe 1-200lbs at most. I have never towed anything with it

So chatted with a friend who ones a off road shop... Had several Yukon gear sets going bad. Round the 2018 time frame Yukon moved gear production to , you guessed it, China. Quality control is not their strong point.

Gears that are still American made are Revolution and Motive.

Makes my nervous since I just installed Yukon bearing in my diffs....

We need to take back America from the Chinese......

So we got the pinon out today and they took some fancy magnify glass to it and feel confident it was a bad cast.  I know enough to be dangerous but they mentioend about there being very specific "Spots" that were different.  Dunno if this is a better pic or not

57dd28882666c2a05db202b8f6e4ba97.jpg

But some other points that could lead to a bad known batch.  Once i gave them my serial and YES info they didnt ask any other questions and did not require me to send in the old gears they just overnighted fresh ones.

This is really shaking my confidence in Yukon, I've bought a lot of there stuff, too...

Back running under her own power again. Still a few things to do in the coming months but atleast i can drive it again that was the important part

Rear end completely tore apart and fully cleaned after the ring and pinon exploded.
New replacements installed.

Drive shaft was starting to leak and didnt look great so upgraded to an Adams Rear 1310  it was on the list and now was as good a time as any.

Took the front cover off to change fully and did a full inspection of gears and everything looked good up there so cleaned and changed fluids.
Also greased all the things that needed greasing and Changed the engine oil.

Phase 2 (thanks work bonus). The steering stabalizer was blown and i was sure the tie rod was bent. Then i figured i would do the drag link since it was the only other piece not upgraded. When i was talking to NR4x4 they had a complete package to include the tierod / dragling / track bar and trackbar frame reinforcement brace so i just went all in will just sell the terflex monster bar to recoop a small bit

Clearly much beefer
