Puppy planning recommendations

I’ve got a new puppy inbound and I’m trying to think through what I should do to both protect my Jeep and prep for the pup. Any recommendations for rear seat covers? Do you use any kind of ramps to help your pups get in and out? What else should I be thinking about?

What kind of dog is it? I used a pet hammock for my back seat when i drove my dog anywhere. i didn't take her everywhere with me though. if you are planning to have the dog in the Jeep a lot, seat covers may make more sense. Weathertech has some good stuff for seat protection.

hammock style

I second the hammock. As far as the ramp, especially for a lab I don't think you need it until possibly when they are older and can't jump. The hammock I have is from orvis and it covers everything very well. And being able to remove it and wash as necessary is much easier than seat covers. We have a chocolate lab.

The hammocks are usually designed for the back seat.

In my Ram, I have an Orvis cover that that allows passengers to sit there as well as protect for the dogs. Very durable

You mentioned that you have kids so my suggestion prolly won't apply but.....

I took my backseat out (of TJ) and had a MuddyPaw mat along with two cheap Goodyear rubber floormats down for her. I used the two rear floormats and put them right at the rear door entrance and then the MuddyPaw mat was closer toward the back seat. The rubber floormats caught any small gravel pieces that were in her pads after a dog park romp.

You guys are so nice to your dogs, letting them ride up in the main cabin. Most of the time my dog is relegated to the trunk. I bought the largest crate I could find that fit in the back. She is even bigger now than these pictures, but still fits in the crate and is able to turn around inside.

I used to let her ride back there with just a single tether if we were staying in the neighborhood. Then she jumped out still tethered as I was parking at the dog park. Now it is the crate or a double tether that keeps her head inside the Jeep at all times.

Pretty sure this was my dog after she jumped out and was still attached to her tether in the Jeep. Her rear paws were on the ground, just barely.

Yea, I definitely wouldn't trust our new dog to not jump out.

Thanks all.

I bought a ramp, but it turned out to be WAYYYYY too wide for the backseat doors. (I didn’t realize they opened so little). Hooking it onto my door scratched the paint. So now I have a paint touch up kit in my future. Haha. Ramp was returned. I have very little confidence the pup won’t jump out, so I still have to figure this one out.

Out of fear for killing the leather seats, I ended up getting a very simple waterproof rear seat cover. Put it on tonight and it worked fine and looks decent. Jeep branded.
