I went with this flip up plate mount on my jk.

Put the Fishbone flip up fairlead license plate holder on the other week. Required me to go to Ace Hardware and buy new bolts, as the ones provided ones by Superwinch weren't long enough. It was an easy install, just slide it on and tighten everything back up. Matches my license plate frame and bumper well. Seems sturdy, far enough from the fairlead, holds the flip up/down positions without any wiggling so far.

I stopped by Home Depot and picked ups 1’ x 1‘ 22 gauge aluminum plate, bent it on a 2x4, cut it down to size, and added nutserts to hold the plate. I don’t think it came out too bad.

For a cheap DYI you can use pipe hangers (1-1/2 inch for mine) and stainless steal bolts on the bumper bar.
Haven't lost a plate yet
