Jeep Badge of Honor "Trail 2103" this Sunday 4/13

Last month a group went to Wolfs Den State Park to run the new Jeep Badge of Honor trail Trail 2103 near Kitzmiller, Maryland. There is a great write-up of their adventures here: New MD Badge of Honor trail on Sunday 3/16 As Sherman was in the shop I was unable to attend. Others mentioned they were also unable to attend that weekend.

Fortunately, I have a free Sunday this coming weekend, and I'm planning to try out this trail. If anyone else is interested let me know. We could meetup on the way out or at the park office.

The trail is at the Wolf's Den Run State Park. Registration is required at the park office. The address is: 1695 Upperman Road Oakland, MD 21550 You can also register online here: Online registration

-Plan to leave from Sheetz in Haymarket at 7 am on Sunday 4/13. Address: 15315 Washington St, Haymarket, VA 20169. Get here before 7 if you need to fuel up, grab snacks, etc. It is about a 2 to 2.5hr drive from here. Note there are two Sheetz' in the area. We will meet up at the one off US15.
-If not meeting up at Sheetz, plan to meet up at the park office NLT 0930. Park office address is 1695 Upperman Road Oakland, MD 21550.

-There is limited cell phone coverage in the area. Plan to preload maps. Also there "might" be paper maps at the park office.

-Pre register at the link above.

-Gas options near park office: Deep Creek Grocery Gas & Liquor, 3562 Swanton Rd, Swanton, MD 21561 (10.5 miles away from the north/northeast) or several gas option in Oakland MD (8 miles away BP, Liberty, BFS, Pacific Pride).

I have to pick up Amy at DCA Sunday evening so I'll have to depart the area NLT 1500.

Sounds good, I am checking with the wife, she might want to go up on Saturday and have us spend the night so we can do some hiking and check out the area a bit. I have never been to deep creek lake area before.

We will need to keep an eye on the weather. Looks like rain Friday and Saturday with the possibility of some snow too. If temps drop below freezing I have to worry about ice. Ice and snow on the trail caused me to bail on a union springs to Flagpole ride a few months ago.

I'm OK with making a weather call Friday. Typically Id be ok with a little weather on the trail, but I do have to get Amy from the airport Sunday late afternoon and don't need the struggle with roads/traffic getting back to DC.

Yes the parking lots are fairly large.

Just checked Weather.com for Sunday's forecast in Kitzmiller MD. All looks good. We are a GO. I'll update the original post with information discussed through this thread.

weather does look good. I am pretty sure I will make it. Now that the rain came today instead of tomorrow, I should be able to get my weekend chores done Sat.

I will need to buy a pass at the office that morning. My wife and I plan to leave the house extra early to get out that way so we will have time to stop for a meal along the way and gas up too. If I remember I will bring my pair of radios.
