Gr8Dain's 1984 Scrambler

I also bought some warrior products skids for the u bolts to help keep that from happening again. I decided that I won’t be using the shock mounts. I have ordered some brackets I will weld to the axle tubes to move them off the plates. Oh and I picked up some axles. A rear dana 44 and a front 30. The front already has a locker but I am adding a Spartan locker to the rear before I install them. And they have 4.46 gears.

How ‘bout this for some hack repair? I went to make more room for my twin sticks in case they were bumping the tub and causing the t-case to pop out of gear. Dremel came out to play. The “front” stick definitely hit the tub. The rear had some room, but I gave it some more. Then to clean it up and cover the extra size of the hole, black gorilla tape came out to play. Damn this Jeep is getting more hacked up. But i don’t care. As long as the twin sticks work right. And I have a metal blank to make a new cover if I care to in the future.

And I learned that my rear stick was not fully engaging. When I was testing things, I put the front stick i to high and then I noticed that the rear stick slid further back as well. Then I could put the front stick back into neutral and the rear stick stayed. I am hoping that has been my problem.

Any specific reason you aren't using the plates for the shock mount?

Well, the bolts on three of the 4 plates on the Jeep are bent to hell from hitting rocks. And the brackets move them up out of the way. The front already uses the brackets, so the bolts on the plates are just getting bent and I have not cared. But the rear was an issue. So I will weld on brackets for those as wel.

Have you purchased the Spartan yet? If not, I'd consider a TORQ locker. I've installed a couple of these and they are the best automatic locker I've seen to date. Plus, it comes with a 4 year warranty.

Yes. A buddy swapped me the locker for the 44 in exchange for the axles I am removing (they were his anyway as he let me have them years ago when I did the frame swap

So I got the shock brackets welded to the new to me axles. And then got the rear axle under the Scrambler. Front is coming soon. Then I need to fill them and bleed the brakes. I also got a new speedo gear and some extended brake lines (finally).

And I should have done this when I had the axles out, but I need to swap over the e-brake cables from the AMC 20 to the Dana 44. So for now, no e-brake.

Front axle is now in place, waiting on the u bolts. And the extended brake lines are attached. I also filled the differentials and topped off the t-case. It was one big thing and a few little things today. But I need to get some crush washers for the fittings. Once that is all done, I will bleed the brakes and take it for a spin.
