Last time I talked to the manager, there was no reservation needed to do primitive camping, but you have to make a reservation for an established site

Also, once we have a headcount, Rob or I are going to call them ahead of time and let them know how many to expect for our group, both camping and wheeling.

What's the camping situation? do we need to reserve campsites?
There are a couple areas for camping, and designated areas that have water an electric. @Spaz we might want to look into a group site, there was one at the far end of the camping loop atop the hill. Last we were there a group of SXSs were camped there.

There is a bath house by the horse arena that is fairly clean with good hot water. there are also cabin available that are full service. The bar restaurant is closed.

Wild life, Racoons are not afraid to visit you camp site and getting into everything.

@R3 sounds like a good idea. We got a group site at the last two big events I attended and that was a lot of fun. Cabin doesn't sound hateful either. I have one rented for my NC trip next weekend.

At Big Meadows, I had deer bed down for the night in our campsite... and trash pandas had zero issues with snatching food out of your hands. It's always funny til they sneak up on you. LoL

Might be best if we let GER know we are coming with a group.

Good morning,
Update on the trip. Red Jeep is planning to head out 11 Oct from the King George area. It is a bit of a haul for us. If anyone would like to convoy out let me know. Will also monitor WXMAN and CH 15 GMRS. Weather should be cooler during this time plan accordingly.
GER has a good selection of Cabins and campsites. The restaurant is closed. Fire wood will need to be brought in, last we were there they did not mind us having a camp fire.

I'd be game to meet you in F'burg. That only adds 30 minutes to my drive.

I have a nice 4-season tent and propane heat. Firewood is definitely coming with me. LOL

Sounds great. Think Rattletrap 55 will be in tow as well.

Okay, my previous post was an error... Rocktoberfest is the first weekend. I found an older ad. However, there is a horse show that same weekend.

All established camp sites are booked. 1 small trailer is left to rent for $150 a night. Unlimited primitive camping is available.

I am really looking forward to this trip. I have a new 4-season tent I am really looking forward to testing out. Highs in the 60s and lows in the mid to low 40s is going to be perfect wheeling weather. If the rain holds off, I may recruit a few strapping lads to help me pull the hardtop.

It has been a minute since the Big Red Jeep has ventured out of the garage. Looking forward to this as well. Lows in the 40s sounds like great camp fire weather. Do we have a group camp spot or do we need to work that with GER staff?

Reached out to GER on a Group site. We have a group site at the far end of the park past the barns.

My travel plan is to leave out of King George 0700. Meeting any interested in Convoying out at Sheetz 5504 Germanna Hwy, Locust Grove, VA 22508. (this is the intersection of RT3 and RT 20). With fuel stop before entering the park this should put us there by 1300. Lots of time to set up and maybe even run some of the park.

Route will take me west on 64 to 64/81 south to 64 west. Will be monitoring VHF 151.625 and GMRS 462.5500 (GMRS ch 15) Look for the Red Jeep trailer in tow.

Cheers

Is there a gate that closes on the primitive sites? It wasn't clear from the website whether the gate that closes is on the park or the off-roading portion of things.

From what I know, there is no gate to the ranch. Once inside the owners want us to adhere to a slow speed limit I think 5 or 10 mph. We need to check in at the office ( signage for that) and then the office manager will guide you out to our group. They are really friendly and easy to get along with.

Also there will be a horse event going on this same weekend. So we have to be careful not to spook the riders or their animals.

So?
