Big Dogs Offroad - Ice Breakers

Big Dogs Offroad - Ice Breakers

Missed our first ride and need to catch up. Thinking about this one. Anyone been to this one? Challenging trails?? It is about 90 minutes from me and fairly convenient.

I did ice breakers last year. Organization was limited due the heavy rain we experienced during the morning meeting. The trails were quite fun. I don’t know what level we ended up doing. We switched lines due to the rain, then our group was split in half.

The cove does charge you an additional entrance fee. So be prepared that the registration fee is not the total cost.

The cove also has a reputation of being hard on rigs. I got a bolt in my tire pulling into the staging area. Swapping tires in the rain wasn’t fun. Someone else almost lost their roof mounted spare as it came loose. Another guy killed a tire. And a lady lost her rear track bar so her axle was flopping side to side.

I had fun, I would do it again.

Sounds fun! Sadly we left all our camping gear back at our forever home in Ohio. I might have to reevaluate that decision.

It is fun but expensive. Probably several hundred dollars total without lodging if you aren't camping. Close proximity to Winchester, so plenty of hotels. They have trails from pretty much dirt roads to stuff that would total a buggy. Many of them you are sitting in a line of vehicles and the day goes by very slowly. It is definitely a great park with lots of challenges.

I plan on attending again this year, signed up for group 5. I've done both 5 and 6, the trails are similar but with 6 the drivers will be a little more aggressive about accepting minor damage. Last year I was pretty aggressive and did bend a rear control arm and I had a random stick get past my skid plates an into the radiator one trip so I trailer out now for my own peace of mine. The camp sites are pretty good, the operators keep things in pretty good order. My main gripe is that this group has taught me the value of on trail comms, the the folks that attend this event are more casual and don't always have radios.

You sound like such a Jeep guy…”it was horrible everything broke and it was hard on a bunch of rigs….yeah I’ll totally do it again it was fun!” Hahahaba

I’m leaving on the 29th to drive out to Moab so I’m out on this one but looks like there are a few….maybe next one!

I think we ended up in group 5+ (levels 5-8), but we bypassed some of the harder routes due to the rain. I still dont know how we ended up in that group tho lol
