Another Gldiator build

Its been 5 years since I went down that rabbit hole. I guess more stuff hit the market reliably? I looked to see if Motobilt has one, but still nothing from them. They do have a kit for a TJ, which is something I'd still consider doing to mine. but, im pretty sure my Gladiator is staying on Radius Arms.

Interesting find while surfing options

So after a long ride in 4wd hi, my transfer case is making growling noises in 4 lo. So the other half took the rig shopping..... it was in 4 hi..... 250 miles later..... U joints are mad. and in 4 lo backing up it sounds like something is skipping ( chain?) harsh and loud. Moral of the story, if the other half is not knowledgeable on 4WD use.... it is going to be expensive.

Before dropping close to 2 K, going to look at adjusting the lever. I did have an issue with popping out of 4L... this could be the reason it doesn't engage completely in 4L.

Noticed that yesterday I drove up the stone drive in 4H but it seemed like the rear was the only thing digging. Reshifted the t case and got the front to engage. Might be a shift linkage adjustment... it is a whole lot cheaper than a t-case.

Hopefully it will be something easy. Partial engagement could explain all the noise.

I had something that sounded like the chains dragging inside that case, it it turned out to be the bolt holding the yoke on the front output shaft came loose. I would check for play. You may have more than one thing happening.

@Spaz , Was going through the mental trouble shooting myself. The Shift linkage (Cable ) has an adjustment to it. I just replaced the front "mad" U joints and the shafts all feel tight, ( no play). Though it might be the selector in the axle too but I go no indications that it is not moving. Found on the JL forums a way to "Adjust" the shift linkage. Looks like a much easier and less costly place to start.

Also after picking up the rig in January I had an unfortunate incident where the rig ( I thought) was in 4L, when the last strap came off so did the Jeep. Popped out of 4L or not fully engaged?

Yesterday coming up my stone drive in 4H ( As indicated) did not feel like the front end was engaged... reselected 4H and did a hard turn to confirm the front end was engaged and sure enough... Couple that to no noise or vibration in 2H or 4H leads me to believe it may not be the Transfer case Afterall.

This has me leaning toward a shift cable adjustment. If I am not fully in 4L or 4H that could explain the heavy skipping noise.

Scaled the rig this past week. YIKES! 6740lbs........ take the old man out of the equasion and the rig is still 6440 lbs.......

Aluminum Bumpers
Aluminum Skids
watched weight everywhere is can.....

New suspension will have aluminum links to keep weight in check... Coilovers to replace the OEM springs ....

WOW just can't believe this rig weighs this much.

Started looking at the rig...
Clayton suspension...steel and HD.
D60 rear
Rockslide steps
39 inch tires and wheels...
Dual battery group 31 in the backseat and a 94F under the hood...
Spare tire mount ...
Warn winch....
Dual comp ARB....

It adds up quick. We all think these things are light weight ... Base rig is around 5500.... My recovery and tool pack up is about 90#....

I focused this build on keeping weight in check ...

Will scale again after the suspension is installed ..

Glad I have a high torque Diesel to push this rig down the street.

Cheers

I wish I had a diesel on a few of these trips. When I take that hairpin on the last leg to Rausch from the southeast, climbing that 10% grade just before the gate, I am usually in second gear at 5,000 RPM. It's just a little faster than walking.

Are the fenders steel or aluminum.

@Spaz
I have gone thru my recovery gear. Removed the steel swapping for aluminum. I carry one steel shackle for the high lift. Everything else is synthetic. To include winch extension line, short and long straps, and kinetic rope.

Tools, same thing minimize weight not over packing.

Christmas is coming!..... a little late. Artec has finally given me a ship date so I expect the new suspension to be here is a week or so. Filthy Motorsports just placed my order for custom 2.5x14 king Coil Overs.... Building will begin in March/April time frame. 🤪🤪
