2025 Camp Heep Pre-Run at AoAA

2025 Camp Heep Pre-Run at AoAA

I've always wondered if it was called Camp Heep because of auto correct replacing Jeep with Heep. Is that the case?
It is a pun on Camp Jeep, as it was started when it was thought that Camp Jeep was done, 2006. DCX, who owned Jeep at the time, delayed the announcement. Another part was in the early days of the club most of the Jeeps were older, and hardly anyone wheeled newer ones, until Rubicon came out. This is where the play on names became Heep. Camp Heep was mostly the brain child of a former member, Tom Guaraldo. There were there clubs that were involved for a period of time, Maryland Creepers and Off-Camber Crawlers are the other two. All three clubs shared more than a several members including Tom (NoVa and OCC) and there had been a long history of wheeling with MD Creepers as well as OCC. Tom, is the the guy that deserves the biggest credit even though there are several others that had a enough of a hand in it to have been co-creators.

Rausch Creek was chosen for serval factors. The first they were very open to accommodating a larger group, several of the OCC members as well as MC had assisted with getting RC off the ground including several of the sponsors for all three of the clubs. Randy Wood was a huge help and sponsor to Camp Heep, RC and a member two of the three clubs three clubs, I believe he became a member here after he bought his Cherokee, also.

Keep in mind this is pre Save the TaTa's starting. When Tata's started Camp Heep and TaTa's was the same weekend at RC, several years later we were asked to move the weekend for us as they drew a much larger crowd.

Unfortunately we lost Tom in 2008 to a wheeling accident, and lost Randy in 2019. Both were great guys.

Good Morning!

We have 15! people signed up for this ride as of now which is great! The original thread has been updated to include pertinent information. Please make sure to re-read the original post and share which group you would like to be a part of.

This being a "pre-run" for camp heep, what are our goals?

Are we wanting camp heep (CH) leads to run smaller groups through the trails they hope to run at CH? So they can tweek their plans based on current trail conditions? If so, do we need to start identifying CH trail leads?

Or is this just a fun trip for a smaller group of members to go and have fun for the weekend, and acquaint ourselves with the venue and explore some of the trails.

Both are cool, just want to know which one to plan for. I was tentatively planning on leading a badge of honor group for CH, so I was hoping to pre-run Barney Rubble and Fern Ridge.

My perspective would be more in line with your second goal - aiming to get area familiarity with the park, and the trail system as a number of members have not been there previously.

That being said, this would be a great chance for those interested in being a CH trail lead to identify specific trails they would like to run for the event. I would imagine that a group doing the two badge of honor trails for CH would be pretty popular. Also depending on the level of difficulty everyone is interested in, will drive trail selection.

I'm not familiar with AoAA yet, which is why I wanted to go on the pre-run.....plus any day of Jeeping is a good day. I'm happy to slot into either group. I would like to hit Barney Rubble and Fern Ridge either on this trip or the actual Camp Heep.

I have been as a passenger but not as a driver, so I am hoping to go and get more familiar with the trails and get an idea of which to run during CH. not sure if I will be leading any yet, but getting a lay of the land would be beneficial.

I went last year the day after CH and had a good time. I’m up for the intermediate/advanced group at least one of the days. If it looks like we will need more beginner leads for CH, I’d likely also do some of the greens to familiarize.

Looking at the Eastern Map. trail on the north side of East Anthracite road tend to be swampy and some of those holes are very deep.

Hotel (Hampton Inn, Pine Grove) booked for Friday night! Anyone want to go to O’Neals for some wings and beverages??
Also just booked the hotel (Hampton) for Fri and Sat night. Amy and I will drive up after work on Fri so not sure what time we'll get there. Always open to some wings and wet snacks.

Question about the 2-day pass - We have 2 drivers in our jeep - do we need 2 passes or 1 pass with one passenger fee.
I realize we will need 2 waivers for 2 drivers.

Should be the 2

I would guess a 2 day Full Size Pass, with a 2 day passenger

I wish i didn’t have to, but I am not a le to do the pre-run. Family needs have me out of town for a while. Hoping to make Camp Heep

Please remove me from the pre run. I have finally found someone to assist with the turbo issue I have on the TJ but I will not have everything together for this run. Still hoping to make it to Camp Heep this year.
