One of Northern VA Jeepers Associations long standing traditional rides is the early summer “New to Jeeping” trip up to Flagpole. This is round 2, for those that can't make the earlier date.
Since this is a new to Jeeping run, we will do an extended safety brief before we start and go over some basic off-roading 101 points. This ride will be a little slower than normal and will have folks available to answer questions and help those who are new to all this. All are welcome, but be prepared for a 101 type day.
The ride will be capped at 8 Jeeps until we get additional lead/tail jeeps to help out.
Logistics:
Location: We will meet at Mountain View Elementary School parking lot
2800 Rawley Pike, Harrisonburg, VA 22801
Plan to arrive at 8:30 having already filled your fuel tank
We will do a safety brief at 8:45 and depart at 9:00
Trail comms: GMRS (Ch 4/5)
Level: Green
The Trail:
Flagpole is a great stock-friendly trail with a little bit of everything. You can expect a little stream crossing, some very scenic forest trails, mud flats, stair steps, and rock climbs. We will stop in a big meadow where we will eat lunch and enjoy some of the best views around.
Mandatory Requirements for this ride are:
Functioning 4wd
Spare tire (and tools to change)
Food & water ( we will do a group lunch at the meadow)
Recovery points (front & rear)
Full tank of gas
Follow Tread Lightly principles (including pack in-pack out)
Recommended:
Fire extinguisher & first aid kit
Radio (if you dont have any - we often will have extra handhelds to lend)
Recovery gear & tools (if this is your very first run - don't worry we will have extra)
Camera- You never know what you will see up there. Bear, snakes, deer, fox, quail, streakers, etc.
Chair- To eat lunch, relax, and enjoy some scenery at the meadow
Jacket/Sweatshirt- it can get chilly on top of the mountain
